Halifax LK-C was taking part in a major attack on the city of Dusseldorf on the night of 22 April 1944 when it was seen to have been shot down near Eppinghoven. Three members of crew escaped by parachute and were taken prisoner of War.  John Gibbs died whilst in captivity: Sadly whilst a POW John Gibbs was killed when RAF Typhoons strafed a line of men, mistaking them for enemy troops.
